Total Cell Phone in the World Today As Much as 5 Billion
The number of phones in use worldwide has reached five billion units. This condition is driven by increased demand in emerging markets in India and China. According to a study conducted by Swedish telecommunications giant, Ericsson, Thursday (15/07/2010).
“The fifth billion mobile phone users in the world record on July 8,” the company said in a statement.
In ten years, the mobile market has grown to seven-fold. “In 2000, approximately 720 million people are registered as users of mobile phones. The amount is smaller than just mobile phone users in China today,” said Ericsson.
The number of mobile phone owners increased by as much as two million per day. “Most mobile users are from countries such as India and China,” he said.
The term user in this research is the registered owner on the service, which uses the postpaid and prepaid systems.
One person can have more than one phone, and 5 billion figure does not reflect the number of people who own the phone.
According to the UN, world population numbered 6.8 billion people. Any pre-paid mobile broadband users growing rapidly and is expected to reach 3.4 billion in 2015, compared to 2009 with a total 360 million units.
The giant company predicts, 80 percent of all people who access the Internet will soon make it through a mobile phone. (Kompas)
